The book Arpoador Homenagem is an album of photos and stories from one of the most emblematic places in Rio de Janeiro. In Arpoador, trends were established and fashions began, where surfing in Rio began, Circo Voador was born and Tom Jobim played the grand piano at Pedra. Poets and musicians wrote about that part of Rio, located between Ipanema and Copacabana, where several generations of Cariocas lived together. Based on an original idea by the designer from Rio de Janeiro, Maria Lago, who dreamed of collecting Arpoador's iconographic heritage in a book, the writer Julia Michaels sought out the stories and characters that made Arpoador, over the last decades, such a unique space in emotional geography of the city. From the boy who inspired Caetano Veloso to write 'Menino do Rio' while dating in the car, in front of the sea, it was 'watching submarine racing', passing by the time that Isadora Duncan visited Arpoador with writer João do Rio, this book is a journey through time through the photographs and oral testimonies of the 'arpoadorenses'. The vast iconographic research spanned a century of history and brought to light photographs never before published, both from personal archives and from recognised photographers. In addition to an unpublished text by the writer Ruy Castro, the book also includes texts that Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Vinicius de Moraes and Adriana Calcanhotto wrote about Arpoador. The book, in coffee-table format, mitigates the almost inexistence of publications, text or photography, about Arpoador, making it possible, by simultaneously offering versions in Portuguese and English, that Arpoador and the way of being Carioca travel, in format book, across borders.
